University of Auckland

Directions, Transport and Travel To and From Auckland University
(Auckland, New Zealand)

Auckland is well served by an international airport, railway lines, and motorway systems. It is easily accessible from neighbouring cities and towns such as Hamilton and New Plymouth, and has well-market stations and roads for visitors.

Travel by Air

Almost all visitors to Auckland arrive by air, given New Zealand's remote location. The Auckland International Airport serves most flights from within New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific, as well as flights from the United States west coast, London, Frankfurt, and much of Asia. The airport is 21 km / 13 miles from the Auckland proper, and the Downtown Airline Terminal provides shuttles to and from the airport to the city centre.

Car Hire and Road Travel

You're better off renting a boat with so much water about! Non-the-less there are numerous attractions if you are willing to venture slightly farther, and New Zealand's natural beauty is impossible to beat.

The major car rental companies can be found in Auckland so you always have the option to secure a vehicle once you arrive. However, we recommend you pre-book car hire online as there is one established service offering the best hire prices from a number of companies including Alamo, Sixt and Thrifty.

Car Parking

There are ParkRight car parks throughout Auckland. These facilities are fully staffed, making it ideal for people who need to leave their cars for longer periods of time.

See http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/auckland/transport/parking/guide.asp for details on the location of car park buildings near the business district, fees, operating hours, etc.

Travel by Trains and Rail

The Auckland Regional Transport Network Limited manages all rail stations. It has been implementing new rules and instituting new facilities to make pedestrian and cycle access to stations better and provide long term 'park and ride' and bus interchanges.

Travel by Buses and Coachl

Auckland is well served by New Zealand's reliable bus network. Majority of buses stop at the Sky City Coach Terminal on Hobson Street, and buses leave frequently for the Pahia, Rotorua, Wellington, Mount Manganui and the Coromandel. Trains run daily from Wellington, and another line connects to Rotorua and Tauranga via Hamilton. The main station in Auckland is on Beach Road, a short drive east from the city centre.

Travel by Taxi

Among the most reputable taxi cab companies operating in Auckland is the Airport Auckland Quality Cabs, Ltd., which offers regular and groups transfers and even corporate transport throughout Greater Auckland, and the Auckland Cooperative Taxi Society, which has over 700 taxis.
